Needs Assessment, EQ and communication style, 1-1 debriefs, and individual action plans
Part 2: Team Communication
Goals: create psychological safety, emotionally connect, use empathy and assertiveness, & start having honest (but uncomfortable) conversations.
I asked each leader to share with the team about their childhood.
They shared where they grew up, what they wanted to be, childhood nickname, how many siblings they had, and one challenge they faced growing up.
Team members learned a lot about each other. They emotionally connected and they began to use the skill of empathy when they listened to childhood challenges.
Next phase: using assertiveness with empathy to have honest conversations
I asked the leaders to share, one by one, one thing they thought each leader added to the team and detracted from the team.
The leaders receiving the information were instructed to listen & respond by saying thank you, tell me more, or ask questions, etc.
This set the team up for being able to have productive conflict and turn adversarial conversations into collaborative ones.
