I was hired to create and lead a workshop for a team of seasoned sales professionals; most have been in sales for at least 20 years. They have a tough job; they promote life-saving, oncology products in a very competitive market. Pharmaceutical sales, in general, is really tough. Some days, it is hard to find what motivates you and it is easy to get into a rut.
It is easy to become metric- and activity-centric. Their manager recognized the importance of giving her team, the gift of time, to reflect upon the following:
დ Values
დ Strengths
დ Motivators/Drivers
დ Personality Style
დ Your Why?
We had the opportunity to start peeling back the layers. The discussion was robust. The exercises were tough. Some admitted they didn’t know where to start. They had never taken the time to do this before.
By the end of the workshop, everyone had created a plan (motivators, interests, opportunities, and barriers) for an alignment conversation with their manager. These conversations should be ongoing, with the intention of co-creating a meaningful professional/personal development plan that feeds the soul.
When we are intentional in this way, we help our people find JOY in their work!
